It is my genuine belief that blockchain technology will be the bedrock of the future (and fair) financial system; I am so glad that you have come to my site during this pivotal time in financial history.

My Cryptocurrency Storage Journey

Cryptocurrency is an innovative technology that improves the way in which people transact for goods and services; however, in this digital world having a robust and secure storage solution is critical in protecting your crypto wealth. A few years ago storage was the main issue preventing the majority of people from purchasing cryptocurrency; largely due to the fact that many of the wallets available at the time were not friendly to the “non-computer experts” among us.

When I first got into cryptocurrency I was storing my coins in something called a “paper wallet” which is just that… a piece of paper with my wallet address and private key printed on it. While this is not the worst option in the world I realized that access to my funds could be stolen by an unfortunate spill of a diet coke or someone snapping a picture of it and using my private key to transfer my funds to their wallet.

Given that the private key was clearly exposed for the world to see I knew there had to be a better way… So I gave software wallets a try.

Software wallets are essentially programs that are installed on either a smart phone or computer. These types of wallets are great because you can receive and send funds directly from your personal device; however, you sacrifice security for convenience. These kinds of wallets are referred to as “hot storage” because they are connected to the internet and your wallet password can be exposed to malware and other sneaky hacker tricks… and that is not good!

Then I discovered hardware wallets…

Hardware wallets are an encrypted physical device that has a separate screen in which your wallet password is inputted; meaning your password or private key is never exposed to the internet or a compromised personal device. Simply put, hardware wallets are the most secured way to protect your crypto funds.

I had found the perfect storage solution and I never looked back!

  1. Blockchain is definitly a revolutionary technology and I hope that the banks we loose the power over money. Hardware wallets sounds like a safe choice. There are som many stories of people loosing their crypto currency. I’m still using software wallets, because I don’t have so much, but I sure have been thinking about switching to Hardware wallet. Can you have all the crypto currencies in the same Hardware wallet? Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Johnny,

That is awesome that you are a crypto owner! I would suggest a hardware wallet for ANY amount of crytocurrency because in 2010 one Bitcoin was worth 6 cents; in 2017 it was worth $20k. The top hardware wallets are Keepkey, Ledger Nano S and Trezor and they all hold different currencies (However, all of them hold the main coins and are constantly expanding the coins they support). You can find comprehensive reviews for each wallet on this site along with a listing of the coins they currently support. You can also make as many wallet addresses as you want; meaning, you can have an Bitcoin address for you, one for your family, one for your dog… as many as your heart desires!

  2. Blockchain is definitely a revolutionary technology, and I hope that the banks we lose power over money. Wallet seems to be a safe option. There are many stories about losing currency using encryption. I still use Wallet software because it does not have a wallet. I’m sure I’m thinking of switching to a wallet of equipment. Can you use the same currency on your Wallet Hardware? Thanks for sharing.

      Hi,

Software wallets actually do have a wallet in them (it is just located withing the software you run on your computer). The main difference between a hardware wallet and a software wallet is that one is not connected to the internet and the other is. Hardware wallets are considered to be much more safe because (since it is not connected to the internet) it cannot be hacked. And yes, you can store many different kinds of cryptocurrency on a a hardware wallet. Check out our reviews on the Keepkey and Ledger Nano S if you are looking to buy one.
